Got a Bite

Today I went to the South Branch Potomac and did well with the smallmouth and rockbass. There are Grannom's comming off all over the place. It was different to see a cruzing carp rise to a caddis like he was a rainbow. Now to the "rest of the story".

I was on my was back to the truck and came through some brush and heard splashing. I looked around and in front of me was a copperhead with a mouth full of sunfish. The fish was flopping around doing all it could to get out. As I pulled out my camera I was splashing to keep it near for a picture. After I got a few I used my rod tip to pick it up and move it to the bank for a better picture. Well then we had a problem. The snake dropped the fish and came at me. Let me tell you I look like Richard Pryor in the TOY. I came the H@#&l out of there. He wasnt using me for a sub. That was messed up!! :huh

First tube fly

I  have been looking at tube flies for quite some time now. Some I have seen look like great streamers.
Aftre thinking about trying to convert them to a standard hook I decided to try them as the are. So here is my very first tube, Chartreuse Zonker.

New Spinning rod

Today my wife and I wend to one of our favorite creeks. The day started good with some nice hits then the grag took a wizz. After backing my drag down just a bit more(4# test), I got my hands on a nice        4 1/2 lb Smallmouth. Not to bad for my fist bass of the year. We finished the day with several LM, and SM Bass and with them came Bluegill and Fallfish. For thoughs of you that have never gotten a chance to catch Fallfish, you missing out on some fun. They fight well and can grow to 5# or more.

Meat and Pototaoes

I fish the North Branch a lot and it is loaded with sculpins. There is one that you find alot in the Potomac River Basin, Cottus girardi. I have had this idea running around in my head for a while. I wanted a pattern all my own. I want it to have the belly a little longer, because most patterns I see didn't and I know the natural did. I think it turned out well.

Lightning Bug

This is a entry for a swap I was in. This fly produces well for me. I'm not sure what they thinks it is but it does strike well and often. The Lightning Bug.

All Alone

This day I just couldn't catch up with the guys I was going to fish with. I had an idea where they could be but wasn't going to look all over the river. I took off and hit a spot that I know I would be all by myself. Both state's had dumped some stock fish in and EVERY ONE was there. I took my 7 wt and my streamers and was all alone. This was the best of the day. Two 18" hook jaw males and a nice brown. All on my Fathead Minnow pattern. Just another day is paradise.
